  • Are you interested in becoming a Christian, but not sure how to do it? Do you want to know what the bible has to say about how one becomes a Christian? May be you're already a Christian and you just want a quick recap on the process. The following slideshow will provide you with the 6 steps everyone needs to follow before they can be considered a Christian, and back up each point with scripture. It is my hope that this guide might reach someone who is actively seeking salvation and will help aid them in some way.

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
    - Mathew 7:7 (KJV)

  • So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
    - Romans 10:17 (KJV)
    Hear
    1

Congratulations! You've already completed the first step towards salvation. The bible tells us, that faith comes by hearing. You can't believe in something you've never heard of. All journies begin with a single step, and you just took your first step towards salvation.

  • All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
    - 2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
    - John 3:16 (KJV)
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
    - I Corinthians 15:3 (KJV)
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.
    - John 8:24 (KJV)
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
    - Hebrew 3:12 (KJV)
    That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
    - Ephesians 4:14 (KJV)
    Believe
    2

Now that you've heard the word, it's time to decide if you really believe it. Every person needs to look deep inside of themselves to make up their mind if they truly believe that the bible is the inspired word of God, and Jesus is the son of God and was sent to Earth to die for our sins. These are fundamental beliefs that all Christians should have. Jesus said himself that if you don't beleive in him that you will die in your sins. Belief is the foundation of every Christian's core. It is the cornerstone of our faith. Without strong belief you will probably fall from the faith, and you run the risk of being lead astray by false teaching. So it is of the utmost importance that before moving on you decide if you truly believe or not.

  • If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
    - 1 John 1:8 (KJV)
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
    - Luke 13:3 (KJV)
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
    - Mathew 6:24 (KJV)
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
    - 2 Peter 3:9 (KJV)
    Repent
    3

Now that you have heard and believed God's word, the next step is to repent. Repenting means recognizing that you have beeen living a sinful life, feeling remorseful about it, and then changing your life for the better. Everyone has sin in their life and no one can be saved without repentance. You can't be saved and then continue living a sinful life, you must chose one or the other. You need to change your lifestyle and get into a right relationship with God. It's God's wish that everyone, no matter who they are would come to repentance. God will forgive you of all your past sins, but it's up to you to ask him for his forgiveness.

  • That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
    - Romans 10:9 (KJV)
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
    - Mathew 10:32 (KJV)
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
    - Romans 1:16 (KJV)
    Confess
    4

Cofession is the next step towards salvation. We need to be willing to stand before God and man, and say with our mouths that we believe that Jesus is the son of the living God and he was raised from the dead for our sins. It's important that we be willing to make this confession for the whole world to hear, because if we confess Jesus now, he will confess us later. You can't be a follower of Christ and be ashamed of him. We need to always be proud of who we are, and who we follow.

  • For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
    - Romans 3:23 (KJV)
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
    - Acts 2:38 (KJV)
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added [unto them] about three thousand souls.
    - Acts 2:41 (KJV)
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
    - Romans 6:4 (KJV)
And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
    - Mark 1:10 (KJV)
And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
    - Acts 8:38 (KJV)
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
    - Ephesians 4:5 (KJV)
Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
    - Luke 20:36 (KJV)
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
    - John 3:3 (KJV)
The like figure whereunto [even] baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
    - 1 Peter 3:21 (KJV)
    Be Baptized
    5

Everyone has sinned, no matter how "good" of a person you are and sadly it's this sin that will keep you out of Heaven. Baptism is the solution. Baptism washes away our sins, and adds us into the church. Baptism is the symbolic representation of Christ's death, burial, and resurection and therefore requires a full emersion into some entity of water. It doesn't matter what kind of water, or where it is, as long as you become completely submerged. Once we are baptized we become one with Christ, and we become the children of God. This means that one day when we die, we will be allowed to enter into Heaven and live for all eternity with God and his angels. Don't let anyone tell you that baptism isn't critical for the salvation of your soul, because it absolutely is. Unless you are baptised, your soul will be lost.

  • Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast [some] of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
    - Revelation 2:10 (KJV)
I have fought a good fight, I have finished [my] course, I have kept the faith:
    - 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear.
    - Isaih 59:2 (KJV)
For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
    - Romans 6:23 (KJV)
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
    - 1 John 2:1 (KJV)
    Live Faithfully Till Death
    6

Congratulations! You have done everything needed to become a Christian, so that means you're done right? Wrong. Becoming a Christian isn't a one time deal, but rather a life long comitment. You need to dedicate yourself to serving the Lord for the rest of your days. Being a Christian takes serious dedication from start to finish. Some people would have you believe that once you're saved you're always saved, but sadly that's not the truth. Sin can seperate you from God at any time, and keep you from reaching your eternal reward in Heaven. But luckily God has given us the ability to pray to him, and ask him for forgiveness of our transgressions. You don't have to be perfect, but you need to continually strive to do better.

  • So That's It!

That's all you have to do to become a Christian and obtain salvatoin through the mercy of Jesus Christ. If you have any questions, or would like to know more, PLEASE contact me or get in touch with the leaders if your local Church of Christ.
